5 Tips for Creating Emails that Convert

If you’re like 99% of consumers, you check your email at least once per day. And whether or not you have a love-hate relationship with your cluttered inbox, 80% of business professionals believe email marketing is key to customer retention. You can’t tap into this marketing magic without designing emails that engage and entice, so here are our five tips for creating emails that convert:

  1. Layouts

Strategic layouts and visuals can help guide your viewer into digesting the key elements of your email exactly in the order you want. Use whitespace to your advantage and emphasize important messaging with fonts, gifs, or contrasting colors.

  2. Subject Line

You’re not supposed to judge a book by it’s cover but you definitely judge an email by it’s subject line. Great subject lines should intrigue or divulge juuuust enough information that makes your recipient want to click and read more. We’ve found that emojis are a great way to draw attention in a crowded sea of subject lines, as are mentions of sales, discounts, and limited time offers

  3. Promotions Tab

Gmail has 1.5 billion active users worldwide, so their pesky promotions tab is certainly something to keep in mind. While individual users find it helpful, brands often struggle to get eyes on their messages as the gmail algorithm sorts them away into an out-of-sight out-of-mind folder. If you’re in the same boat and trying to circumvent the gmail promotions tab, try limiting the number of links you have in your email and add elements of personalization.

  4. A/B Testing

If you’re not A/B testing, you’re missing out on learning from your own email marketing mistakes. Think of A/B testing as your middle school science fair experiment: a test variable and a constant. If you’re stuck between two ideas for subject lines, layouts, or messaging, conduct an A/B test to see if one of your ideas receives higher clicks or conversions. Take what you learn and run with it in future campaigns to see if you’ve cracked a code among your consumers!

  5. Exclusive Value

Our inboxes are valuable real estate, so why should someone stay subscribed to your list? We recommend periodically offering exclusive offers and discounts via your emails to make sure you're expanding upon what your website and social media are already promoting.
